American College of Cardiology   This professional society provides information for consumers through its patient education feature. Specific offerings include patient-oriented publications, products and programs.  www.acc.org

Colorado HealthNet  This non-profit organization provides access to information, support services and medical resources for people with chronic medical conditions, including heart disease.  www.coloradohealthnet.org

Healthfinder  A service of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this site is a gateway to reliable consumer health information on a multitude of topics.  www.healthfinder.gov

Heart Point   Created by medical professionals, the site has health tips and descriptions of treatments accompanied by animated drawings.  www.heartpoint.com

National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute  The institute is a division of the National Institutes of Health. The site provides extensive information on cardiovascular disease. Many of its publications are available in Spanish.  www.nhlbi.nih.gov

National Institutes of Health  Information on NIH health resources includes consumer health publications, clinical trials, health hotlines and MEDLINE, the National Library of Medicine's database for helping consumers research their health questions. www.nih.gov

New York Online Access to Health (NOAH)  This site is sponsored by the City University of New York, the New York Academy of Medicine and others. It offers many heart disease resources, and most information is available in Spanish.  www.noah-health.org

Society of Thoracic Surgeons  This site has a patient information section written for the general public on heart surgery, lungs, esophagus and other conditions. www.sts.org


Support Groups
Heart Links  Former Boulder Community Hospital heart patients volunteer their time to provide information, ideas and emotional support to other heart patients. (303) 440-2137 weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mended Hearts  Mended Hearts is a nationwide patient support organization comprised of people with heart disease, their families and medical professionals. The Boulder County Chapter is based in Longmont.  (303) 530-2488
